Abstract
This research was conducted to develop learning media in the form of picture word cards (flashcards) to improve reading skills at the beginning of class I MIN 4 Medan City. The resulting flash card media aims to determine its feasibility through validation tests, effectiveness and practicality. This method uses the Research & Development (R&D) method by referring to the 4D learning model which has been modified to 3D, which consists of 3 stages, namely: Define, Design, and Development. The subjects of this research were students of class I MIN 4 Medan City. The research instruments used included validation sheets by 2 validators consisting of media experts and material experts, interviews with subject teachers, teacher and student response questionnaires and tests. Based on the results of data assessment using media expert validation, a percentage of 83% was obtained with very feasible criteria, material expert validation obtained a percentage value of 94% with very feasible criteria. The conclusion from the results of the assessment analysis by the two experts showed that the flash card media met the very feasible criteria by obtaining score 89%. Meanwhile, in the trial test, students obtained an average pretest score of 52 and posttest 88, so that the N-Gain (g) result was 0.76 and if in N-Gain (g) the percentage obtained a percentage of 76% with high classification and response results teachers and students were 94% in the very practical category. Thus it can be concluded that the flash card media for vowel material can be said to be valid, practical and effective.
